Petersburg's Beat the Odds supports local cancer related programs such as cancer treatment travel, equipment training and other support for patients and their families. In 2024, we recently allocated locally & regionally the following amounts: $17,000 for travel ($6,000 to First City Council on Cancer, $2,000 to Cancer Connection, $8,000 to Wrangell Medical Center Cancer Care, and $1,000 to Angel Flight West), $13,600 to Petersburg Medical Center ($6,000 chemotherapy training for nurses: $3,000 end of life nursing/provider education, $4,500 for additional treatment chair, and 100 Five Wishes Booklets: $100), $2,000 to home health seed money for chore services, $1,800 to True North Counseling and Consultation LLC to facilitate cancer support group, $1,500 reimbursement to Lee’s Clothing for actual amount of invoice for the Circle of Life event t-shirts, $1,000 for radio public service announcements on KFSK regarding cancer resources in the community, $750 for cancer resource brochure, $750 for miscellaneous expenses and supplies (box rent, mailing, office, printing), and $400 for public library books.
Over the life of the event, more than $500,000 has supported local Petersburg and other southeast Alaskan cancer patients.
